Bennett has written on the economics of philanthropy, health care and labor unions. His books include From Pathology To Politics (2000), Cancerscam (1998), Health Research: Charities Image and Reality (1990), and A Higher Standard of Living in Right to Work States (1990). He has co-authored 14 books, mostly with Thomas J. DiLorenzo including The Food and Drink Police (1998). Bennett is professor of economics at George Mason University.

James T. Bennett is an Eminent Scholar at George Mason University. He holds the William P. Snavely Chair of Political Economy and Public Policy in the Department of Economics and is Director of the John M. Olin Institute for Employment Practice and Policy. Bennett received his Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University in 1970 and has specialized in research related to public policy issues, the economics of government and bureaucracy, labor unions, and health charities.
